Forest
Management
Williams Packaging Limited only use corrugated manufacturers
who purchase their paper from suppliers that use
wood from well managed forests and who favours suppliers
who are certified to a Forest Certification System
such as the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and
environmental management systems such as ISO 14001.
Forest certification is an assurance given to a
purchaser of wood and paper products that the timber
used for the product originates from well managed
forests. The most common definition of "well-managed"
is that the forest is managed in an environmentally,
socially and economically sustainable manner.
The assurance given by the certification is based
on:
• Public criteria concerning forest management
• Criteria concerning the chain of custody
of certified wood used in the product/by the mill
• Monitoring the compliance with these criteria
and the eventual labeling of the product or its
package
In Europe, the most widespread forest certification
systems are Pan European Forest Certification scheme
and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
